Is the world changing or is it just my little piece?
Last week I made a proclamation to shed my marketing skin. I said I was through.
I stated it to the air, to a few friends, to the whizzing hummingbirds…
What I meant was that I am through identifying myself as a marketer and through hiding from what I really want to do, which is writing.
My position is that marketing should be a university where you learn the tools, the trade and the language and you move on to create your own space.
There are many like me who have hung around the university too long. We can call ourselves teachers, but we are really students trying to find our voices. One day you take the last available class and the coaching comes to an end.
I am currently working on a study guide for the course, ‘Marketing for Daydreamers.’ I owe it to ya.
I have hit the end of the marketing trail, gone as far as I can go and have been doing nothing but dodging the inevitable draft of my days.
Here’s a short reprieve I wrote back in 2009, but it is so perfect for the situation…
Yesterday
I dodged the draft
Of my day
Left piles of clothes
In heaps
Across the yard
As I crossed the border
Of my mind -
I hung my hair
In the Sycamore tree
Left my skin
Where crows come to feed
My bones lay scattered
Amongst yellow leaves
And I sat
With my naked soul
And I was nothing
But a cricket’s song
I rode on the back
Of a hungry coyote
And dangled for a while
On a fading star
Then bounced
Light as air
From limb to limb
Like a monkey in a tree
And today
Reluctantly -
I squeeze each finger
Back into the glove of me
And lace my boots
Of destiny
Brush the leaves
From my hair
Scrape the star dust
From my fingernails
And emerge from the woods
With nothing
But a cricket’s song

Funny how when you proclaim things the old doors slam shut and new doors open. Sometimes the opportunities that we most fear stand facing us. Maybe our true art arrives.
Good art is vulnerable.
It is naked.
It is a Spiritual Strip-Teeze of the soul.
How many artists are really dancing in the moonlit room with their desires?
Desire is ruthless; it has its way with us and us with it.
This is what I have come to know; in owning my self and my truth I discard the clothing of pretension and land in the place where all spiritual practices long to take us.
I become, not a mirror, but a window thrown opened, I become the breeze and say goodbye to the sagging curtains that mourn for my leaving.
I recently formed an online kinship with Karyn Janelle Davis. Do you know Karyn? If you don’t you are sure to know her soon.
Karyn has touched deep into the inner realms of her own creation. In my opinion she embodies breath and curiosity.
In her words she says, ‘I have had enough of theory with no application.’ I am on board with that statement.
Here are few of the things Karyn has applied herself to:
She is the Director of Synergise International their website is 4sistersconnect.
The CEO and Owner of Forward Focus Ltd. a company offering online training and coaching.
Co-Developer of the DVD The HOW: Develop Your Inner Coach
Creator of The Pocket Coach
Co-Author of Questions: You are the Answer in Which you Seek.
Creator of Be Glorious
Radio Host on Motivational Radio – Karyn Janelle Davis and Change – “Masters in Action”
NLP Trainer, Master Practitioner of NLP, Coach
She’s a busy lady as you can see.
Via a conversation on Skype she asked me to join her in a movement she wants to start called Spiritual Strip-Teeze. This is the first time it has taken a breath in the world. A coming out ~ so to speak.
Life is full of irony when you discard all your baggage and finally submit to your path. Having proclaimed to leave my title as a marketer and finally own up to the validity of my pen – and then the voice of yes comes to me through Karyn. I took it as a sly nod from the universe.
Karyn is looking for a core group of artists who she believes portray the vulnerability and openness that marries art to spirituality. I am honored to help and honored that I was the first one she asked.
I have been called a naked writer. I have been told I write from the inside out and I am sure there are others out there; painters who are willing to dress simply in the sarong of their inspiration, musicians who will leave the house only in the bowler hat of e flat.
We don’t ask much, only that you continue to change the world with your art and continue your Spiritual Strip-Teeze. That you continue being vulnerable to your creativity.
Yogis, spiritual teachers, painters, musicians, writers or culinary architects…we are looking for a core group of twelve to start the dance.
There is a point at which your lower chakras merge with your heart and your head knows it is so right. This is where you need to be.
Creativity and art are paths to spirituality and spirituality can feed your creative urgings. We bare our souls when we enter the realm of non-attachment. We enter to bring back gifts; gifts that burst forth, incandescent and charged in moonlight.
I suppose it is my little piece of the world that is changing, but it is my hope to send out enough ripples to eventually make some waves.
If you are interested in helping us form the movement of Spiritual Strip-Teeze please get in touch with me or with Karyn. My e-mail address is [email protected] or simply leave a comment below. I check all of my comments, even my spam, in case you get lost in the filters.
Please share this post if you know somebody who might be interested.

Dear Friend Nicole,
Desire is ruthless; it has its way with us and us with it and we bare our souls when we enter the realm of non-attachment. We enter to bring back gifts; gifts that burst forth, incandescent and charged in moonlight. I love your words that you create on paper! Beautiful poetic words of dance and whimiscal spirits! MAGIC!
Count me in – I’m all about the Spiritual Strip Tease and I don’t even need a hat – raw emotions, open hearts an LOVE – the non-attacment sort of love my friend…..I’m there and I would be honored to be part of this movement!
In love, light and bliss,
Nancy

Yeah! Nancy. Well, you were on Karyn’s list anyway. LOL! This is going to be so much fun.
BEautiful – Yes Nancy! Sensual soul loving – vulnerable, exotic, delicious and enticing to the soul the love of ourselves, life and each other. Bring on your beautiful intoxicating presence and our beautiful dance will allow illusions to fall away leaving the breath of who we are in the oneness of exquisite excitement.
Your journey is a guidebook to others identifying their true selves and contemplating the changes that brings. It is a beautiful process.
Well, what a journey it has been, Andrea, and you probably know that better than anybody. You have been there since the beginning.
Another beautiful blog Nicole. Truly an inspiration showing us the power and beauty of being you. Showing when we be ourselves life just flows effortless. Love ya
Thanks Julie. You and Edward are a power couple indeed. Thanks for your encouraging comments. And thanks for always sharing. Sharing is the power behind Social Media.
I just realized that I’ve had this one, particular vision throughout my adult life. It’s a group of empowered women, standing around a swimming pool at night. (I’m thinking midnight) We are not naked, but are naked in spirit. And we are celebrating. We are celebrating femininity, empowerment, connection to Source, to creativity and nature. We are laughing and singing and dancing.
And I have long felt the connection between art and spirituality. And connection to you. I’m in. Let’s dance!
One Love,
Debbie

Lets Dance Debbie! I love your expression! The freer we are the freer we allow others to be, I would love to celebrate femininity, empowerment, connection to source creativity and nature as we all laugh, sing and dance together….the rawness of the glory of being alive!
NIcole – My hat off to you! I feel your openness and I feel within me a stirring of pleasure in a joint allowing and appreciation for who we are. As I read your writing my heart yearns to spread this goodness, and to sing and proclaim YES YES YES!!! Thank you for airing this so beautifully and divinely expressing the essence of what we spoke about. In love and pure appreciation. Thank you ♥♥♥
I am inspired to get this going, Karyn. I am ever grateful for you energy. It is funny that it is spring in your neck of the woods while it is fall here. The anticipation of the bee talks to the yellow leaf – somewhere in the middle we meet.
HA! The truth is finally out! It took a couple of years for you to own the mantle of writer, the one that stood by waiting patiently while you practiced in another venue. It was never far, that writing thing. And if shouldn’t be.
Go dance your butt off! It’s time!
Well, thank-you for the encouraging voice, Holly. I am dancing my butt off. Loving every second of it.
Nicole,
I understand. We are on the same page, took about the same time for us both to follow what is real and dear in our hearts. Much love to you.
Isn’t that funny. You are a little ahead of me with getting products out, but yes, we have been on the same path.
What a great bunch of people you are! I truly admire you. Good luck with your journey!
