Your life is a party given for you everyday.
What in the world will you wear?
We don’t often think of it this way and sometimes the details blur our perceptions, but it is true. If you could look up from all the planning and the social interaction and look around you would realize how evident this is.
The wind chimes are singing just for you.
The birds show up in the window only for you.
People show up in your life only for you. They show up to help us learn forgiveness and to help us grow.
“We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
It is not the other way around.
We are dealt a hand of cards best suited to get us through our days and nights and best suited to shine our talents into the world. We have to play our cards or the experience is lost. I am optimistic and believe everybody has an Ace somewhere. Sometimes the Ace comes to us in our dealings with others. Sometimes it is evident and known at a very young age. Sometimes we find it in places we would have never thought to look or in lessons or through circumstances beyond our control.
Recently I re-vamped my vision story. After I recorded it and listened to it the last line was jarring to me. Mostly because I think it had different meaning when I wrote it. It sounded totally different coming back to me in my own words, in my own voice, “Maybe I don’t know the party is for me.” Maybe I did know and maybe I forgot, but I love listening to my vision story over and over again just to get back to that line.
I wrote this poem years ago called, ‘Dressing for the Party,’ and thought I would share it here because sometimes we don’t know what part we are playing. We don’t know how to present ourselves. We don’t know if we will ever be ready, but the fact is we are born ready. Your Ace is sometimes found in the smallest pieces ~ but I think I said it better here…
Dressing for the Party
I am writing this because I didn’t know what to wear
Because I couldn’t dress myself for the party
Because it is a gray and cloudless day
And the sun is dipping its toe into the water of our dreams
Our dreams of snakes and change
Of protecting what is ours
Of the smallest things
Like dots on the horizon
We are moving away
Getting smaller still -
We are the dust flying in a stained glass dream
The tiny no-see-ums by a quiet stream -
And we are moving away
From this dream of reality -
We are flying somewhere so close
And when we arrive we can look back
Over our tiny shoulders
So light
Airy
Like a feather
Caught in a breeze
And realize we were always there
You were always there
And truth stretches tight across the sky like a net
Catches us
Sets us free
And here we go
Dancing and milling around
Looking for things…
But in the honest moments
When time is quick and short
When the roses bow their heads
Solemnly, in the autumn rain
And submit to their brevity -
It is in these moments we know
We exist in the smallest pieces
Of infinity
And we are linked by gracious gardens of greens and gold
By the morning dew – the shimmering leaves
By the sudden dream
That awakens us from reality

So, how do you find your Ace? It has been in your hands all along. It is the way your soul sings itself into the world through the birds, it is found in the sunlight beaming through a summer window. It is found in a smile shared with a stranger or maybe one shared with an old friend. It is found in the way we express ourselves into the world and in the honest moments when time is quick and short. Your life is a celebration of the soul, of your soul. Your life is a party and you are graciously invited to mine. What in the world will you wear?
Become the Person You Need to Become,
Nicole~

Nicole,
What a beautiful way to celebrate life and bring awareness to our Ace in the Hole. You speak of the wonders in the everyday, which is exactly where we live from moment to moment. I would love to come to your party! As far as what I shall wear, something comfortable and easy so I can sit on the side of a hill by a stream and BE in the moment with nature.
Thanks Nicole,
Val

Of course, Val. Something comfortable and easy. I would have it no other way. I am sure I will be in blue jeans and hopefully soon flip flops! So tired of this cool weather.

Thank you Nicole for this wonderful celebration of life and the beauty that is all around us – but most importantly for the reminder of our gifts that we are given each day…sunshine, rain, clouds, oceans, skies…infinite amounts of gifts. To your party, well I probably would wear white silk that flows with the breezes …..
In gratitude to your beautiful poetry,
Nancy

Can’t wait to see you in the white silk, Nancy. It sounds amazing! Thanks for stopping by and reading. I am wondering why your latest post did not show up on my Comment Luv plugin. No biggee, I will find you.

Hi Nicole, This is a great blog, very neatly laid out. I agree that dressing up is a way of celebrating life and of putting ourselves in a spirit of abundance. It is much better to have the aim of improving life.
All best wishes,
Diane

Hi Diane,
Thanks for the compliments. Don’t feel like you have to dress up just come as you are!

Thank you for the beautiful reminder that we all have an ACE and it is within us. Finding it can often be a journey, but look within … it is there. What am I wearing to the party? I’m with Val … comfortable and easy … enjoying what is around me, both nature and beautiful people!!

Hi Wendy,
I know you play your Ace everyday. The journey of finding is sometimes bewildering but most days fun. It is in our hands and usually we recognize it in interactions with other people.

Hi Nicole I feel great after reading your post and your poem, thanks so much! We are born knowing what we want and knowing how to live life to the fullest. And, we forget. Then someone like you comes along to remind us again!
I will enjoy every moment of your party Nicole! Regards from Julieanne

Thanks Julieanne,
I appreciate your positive feedback and I do agree; we are born knowing what we want. We are born with our greatest potential in our hands but somehow we forget. Subtle reminders are good. Thanks for the connection on FB.

I am definitely in the process of “becoming”. Sometimes I’m not sure what I am becoming, and other times there’s no doubt or fog in my mind about it. Thank you so much for the wonderful image of my life being a party held just for me. I never thought of it that way, but I love it!
Live with passion and purpose,

Happy un-birthday to you Venessa. Like the mad hatter said, you only get one birthday a year and 364 un-birthdays. I am sure your becoming will be grand. Thanks for attending my party.

This is beautiful, Nicole. I love your references to the birds and wildflowers… How does that saying go? “Take time to stop and smell the roses.” I am sometimes accused of doing too much of that. But it makes life so much more interesting and full of beauty and peace. I NEED that. When I hear an oriole or see a rare wildflower, I feel as if I have been handed a precious gift by my Father in heaven.
Next time I feel guilty for stopping to enjoy the little things… I will remember the party and my only question will be, “What shall I wear?”

Sometimes when I hear the first bird in the morning it like hearing bells. What will the day bring? Everyday is so new and having a good balance between work and play is vitally important.

When the roses bow their heads
My favorite part of your poem is this section:
“Solemnly, in the autumn rain,
And submit to their brevity -
It is in these moments we know
We exist in the smallest pieces
Of infinity”
We get so caught up in thinking our problems are so huge and insurmountable, that we alone are suffering and that our problems will continue indefinitely. The truth is that the only thing we can count on is change and death.
But finding our ace can be so difficult when it has been buried beneath layers of put downs, insecurities and voices that tell us we are inadequate and incapable.
That is why it is essential for each of us to find our ace, shine our light, and be examples and guides, offering our hand to help others find their ace.

That is actually my favorite part of that poem too. So glad there are people like you to help others find their Ace and work through the changes in life.
